Water-Wise Landscaping

Monterey County's climate is semi-arid or Mediterranean, with only about 14 to 17 inches of rainfall each year. Outdoor watering comprises about 50 percent of a typical home's water usage. Landscaping with drought-tolerant and native plants reduces irrigation water demands. Many are quite hearty and beautiful. They also require less pesticide use, which is good for your kids, pets, and neighborhood creeks.

A great tool to assist Monterey County residents select appropriate plants for veracious applications is an interactive program developed by the Water Awareness Committee of Monterey County, Inc. with the support of the Monterey Peninsula Water Management District.
