Sewer rates are determined by business type or commercial category. To calculate the rate, the average water consumption, measured in gallons per day (GPD), is used for each category. As users do not consume the same amounts of water, an average range has been established. The Business Rate Calculations (PDF) includes the range for each business category.
Variance Application
If you believe your water usage falls below the average range for your's business' respective category, you can apply annually for a variance rate.
In our area, sewer service is a joint responsibility. Monterey One Water is responsible for the regional conveyance and treatment of your wastewater while the city in which your resident resides is responsible for collecting and transporting your wastewater to our system. This shared responsibility is reflected on your bill. City Sewer System Charges for sewer collection and conveyance are passed on to your city. Refer to the following documents for details:
Please Note: Marina Coast Water District bills its customers directly for wastewater collection. No City Sewer System Charge will appear on the Monterey One Water bill for residents in the Marina Coast Water District service area.
